Installation
Follow these steps to install the Fauna Cargo Cage on a compatible frame or fork mount.
Installation Steps
Section titled “Installation Steps”-
Position the cage: Hold the backplate against the mounts with the open side of the cage facing forward. If the mounts are slightly misaligned, use the horizontal slot to line it up.
-
Add spacers if needed: For recessed carbon fork mounts, place the TPU spacers between the cage and the mounting surface.
-
Position the foot: Mount the foot where it best supports your load. For bottles and small dry bags, that’s near the bottom of the cage. For long items like tent poles, remove it.
-
Thread the bolts: Insert the M5 bolts through the cage and spacers and into the mounts. Start all the bolts by hand, then tighten them evenly to the torque listed below.
-
Secure your load: Strap your bottle, bag, or gear into the cage and make sure it can’t shift while riding.
Torque Specifications
Section titled “Torque Specifications”| Bolt | Recommended Torque |
|---|---|
| M5 mounting bolts (metal frames and forks) | 4 Nm |
| M5 mounting bolts (carbon frames and forks) | 3 Nm |
If your frame or fork manufacturer lists a lower torque for its cargo mounts, use that. If you don’t have a torque wrench, tighten until snug and stop. Over-tightening can strip the mount threads or damage carbon.
Final Checks
Section titled “Final Checks”- Recheck bolt torque after your first ride.
- Make sure the straps stay tight and the load doesn’t touch the wheel, frame, or fork.
- Stay under the load limit of 3 kg (6.6 lbs).
- If the bolts loosen over time, a small amount of threadlocker will help.
