Installation
Follow these steps to install the Fauna XL Cargo Cage on a compatible frame or fork mount.
Installation Steps
Section titled “Installation Steps”-
Position the cage: Hold the backplate against the mounts with the open side of the cage facing forward. If the mounts are slightly misaligned, use the horizontal slot to line it up. On a 4-bolt mount, use the holes that put the cage where you want it and leave the most clearance for the wheel and your load.
-
Add spacers if needed: For recessed carbon fork mounts, place the spacers between the cage and the mounting surface.
-
Position the foot: The foot has several mounting positions. For bottles and small dry bags, mount it near the bottom of the cage. For tall or soft loads, move it up until the load sits level. For long items like tent poles, remove it.
-
Thread the bolts: Insert the M5 button-head bolts through the cage and any spacers and into the mounts. Three bolts are included. If your bike has a 4-bolt mount, add a fourth M5 bolt. Start all the bolts by hand, then tighten them evenly to the torque listed below.
-
Secure your load: Strap your bottle, bag, or gear into the cage and make sure it can’t shift while riding.
Torque Specifications
Section titled “Torque Specifications”| Bolt | Recommended Torque |
|---|---|
| M5 mounting bolts (metal frames and forks) | 4 Nm |
| M5 mounting bolts (carbon frames and forks) | 3 Nm |
If your frame or fork manufacturer lists a lower torque for its cargo mounts, use that. If you don’t have a torque wrench, tighten until snug and stop. Over-tightening can strip the mount threads or damage carbon.
Final Checks
Section titled “Final Checks”- Recheck bolt torque after your first ride.
- Make sure the straps stay tight and the load doesn’t touch the wheel, frame, or fork.
- Stay under the load limit of 6 kg (13.2 lbs).
- If the bolts loosen over time, a small amount of threadlocker will help.
