Installation

The Fauna Kitty Collar sits on the steerer next to the Handlebar Bag Support, so it’s easiest to fit both at the same time. If the support is already on the bike, you’ll need to remove the stem to add the collar.

These steps refer to the Handlebar Bag Support installation for the stem and headset work. Read that page first if you haven’t installed the support before.

  1. Remove the stem: Follow steps 1 and 2 of the support installation. Support the fork so it can’t slide out of the frame.

  2. Make room: Remove 8 mm of spacers from the steerer. If you’re fitting the support at the same time, remove the 5 mm spacer it replaces as well, for 13 mm in total.

  3. Fit the support and collar: Slide the support onto the steerer, then the collar directly above or below it, whichever fits your stack. Turn the collar until its pins drop into the holes in the support. Leave the pinch bolt loose for now.

  4. Reinstall the stem and set preload: Follow steps 5 through 8 of the support installation. Set the headset preload and tighten the stem clamp bolts before you touch the collar.

  5. Tighten the collar: Tighten the pinch bolt with a 2.5 mm hex key, only as much as it takes to stop the support rotating. Don’t go past 1 Nm. It’s a small M3 bolt threading into aluminium, so a little goes a long way.

  6. Check it’s locked: Try to turn the support on the steerer by hand. It shouldn’t move. Then turn the bars fully left and right and check that the collar doesn’t touch the frame, fork, or cables.

  • Recheck the pinch bolt after your first ride.
  • If the support still moves, the collar isn’t the problem. Check the headset preload and stem clamp torque.
